    Since 1991, the Freedom Award has honored distinguished individuals who have made great global and national impact. These men and women are lauded for their work in the struggle for civil and human rights.

    Themed "Where Do We Go from Here," the Freedom Award will be presented Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Orpheum Theatre, preceded by the Red Carpet and Pre-Show Gala at the Halloran Center for Performing Arts.

    Freedom Award activities on October 19, 2017 include the following:

    • 5:00 p.m. - Red Carpet on South Main Street in front of the Halloran Centre and Orpheum Theatre
    • 5:30 p.m. - Pre-Show Gala at the Halloran Centre
    • 7:30 p.m. - Award Ceremony at the Orpheum Theatre

    The Indie Memphis Film Festival presented by Duncan Williams, Inc. is set for November 1 - 6, 2017 with a larger footprint and new look for the 20th anniversary. The festival includes 200+ films, live music before every screening, filmmaker Q&As, panel discussions, receptions and after-parties.    The special MLK50 track will include approximately 10 feature films with most including filmmakers or subjects of the films attending for Q&As. Additional events anticipated include a panel discussion, music and poetry readings, and a screening of short films. Our festival programmer Brandon Harris has ed a variety of films, some that look back to Martin Luther King Jr, and many current documentaries that have premiered at top festivals and address theme of "Where Do We Go From Here?"
