Description:Voices of Justice in the Mid-South presents a one hour commemorative program at St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, beginning at 1:00 p.m., on April 7, 2018, in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and in recognition of the many Memphis Clergy Members who were involved in the daily struggles associated with the 1968 sanitation strike. Speakers and guests include, Rev. James Lawson, former minister of Centenary United Methodist Church and Chair of Community on the Move for Equality (COME), who invited Dr. King to Memphis; Father Nicholas Vieron, Greek Orthodox Church and former chair of the Memphis Ministerial Association. Attendees are invited to participate in a procession to City Hall immediately following the program, in honor of the April 5, 1968 local Clergy’s march to City Hall, seeking to end the sanitation strike. This event will be preceded by a “Jubilee Event” hosted by Constance Abbey and St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, featuring live music, food and celebration of the community from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
