About Event: The MLK50 Essay Contest is extended to all high school students. Participating students are charged with responding to a prompt that focuses on the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. After reading “Letter to Martin Luther King” and “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” write an explanatory essay discussing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s discontentment and reasons for his discontentment with the authors of “Letter to Martin Luther King.” In your essay, include a closing that expresses how Dr. King may have wanted leaders and activists of today to fight against injustice in our present society. The essay submission deadline is March 5, 2018.
